POSTED ON 1/15/10 | The Toronto Invitational Futsal Tournament--the top futsal competition ever to take place in Canada--has selected Sport Court® to provide Federation Internationale de Football (FIFA) championship-sized futsal surfaces for the competition.
The tournament will take place Jan. 22-24 at the Direct Energy Center in Toronto.
“Futsal is FIFA’s official version of indoor or limited space soccer. It is very popular around the world and is quickly growing in North America as well,” said Ron Cerny, President and CEO of Connor Sport Court International, Salt Lake City-based developer and manufacturer of Sport Court playing surfaces.
The tournament will feature championship-caliber futsal teams from across North America. Playing on Sport Court surfaces will be 8 teams per division at the U16 and U18 levels (for both girls and boys) plus one of the best men's divisions ever put together on the continent, said Andrew Gettig, International Vice President of Sport Court.
Kris Fernandez, Toronto Invitational Futsal Tournament Director, said “After making comparisons to other surfaces, we concluded Sport Court offered the best futsal surface available for the development of ball-handling and passing skills which are so important to the fast-paced game of futsal.
“Most of the top futsal competitions in the world have been played on Sport Court futsal courts, so we are thrilled to have them here in Canada. The Sport Court organization has been exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. It’s good to be working with the best in the industry,” said Fernandez.
Cerny said Sport Court’s engineered polymer modular flooring gives the players the safety of a suspended playing surface and the fast ball speed required for top level competition.
