Rosendal Intermediate School in Upington, South Africa won a Sport Court multi-sport game court for winning the 2016 Let’s Play ‘Schools Physical Education Challenge'.
The Let’s Play ‘Schools Physical Education Challenge’
In February of 2016 SuperSport and partners kicked off the second annual ‘Schools Physical Education Challenge’. The ‘Challenge’ is issued to all grade 4 students in South Africa Provinces. Each day, Let’s Play coaching teams will visit schools to run the ‘Challenge’ with students and teachers. The objective of the challenge is to see how many students can go through an obstacle course in 45 minutes.
The school with the highest number of students who complete the course in the allotted time will represent their province in the ‘Challenge’ final, which was held on November 5th, 2016.
The ‘Schools Physical Education Challenge’ was developed by Let’s Play and Active Education to make children passionate about sport and encourage schools to promote physical education.
Rosendal Intermediate School
Ronsedal Intermediate School prevailed over 600,000 students in 651 schools across all South African provinces to win the coveted prize – a multi-sport Sport Court game game court for their school! The multi-purpose court enables students to play five different sports, including soccer, netball, basketball, volleyball and tennis.
“The state-of-the-art multi-purpose court from Sport Court will ensure that we can continue to enhance our children’s education through sport,” said Anita Mathews, Executive Director of the Sports Trust via News 24.
Ronsedal Intermediate School received their prize on February 7th, 2017 at a ceremony where several dignitaries, including Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba, the Northern Cape’s MEC of Sport, Arts and Culture, were present.
